Significance of Vaikunta Ekadashi
Vaikunta Ekadashi (also spelled as Vaikunda Ekadasi) is an imporatant festival dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is observed on the shukla paksha ekadashi of the tamil month Margazhi (Dhanur masam). according to the lunar calenders, It falls in the Margashira or Paush month. This festival is also known as Mukkoti ekadashi and Swarga Vathil Ekadashi.

Vaikunta Ekadashi is observed with utmost significance at the Tirupati Balaji Temple, Srirangam Sri Ranganatha Temple, Bhadrachalam Temple and other Lord vishnu temples. Vaikunta Dwara darshanam is allowed in temples during this time.

The importance of Vaikunta Ekadasi is mentioned in padma Purana. According to a story Lord Vishnu killed Demon Muran on this day. People believe that who ever worships him on this day will reach ‘Vaikunta’ (adobe of lord Vishnu).

Like all other Ekadasi days, devotees obeserve fast on this day and keep vigil in the night. It is widely believed that the gates to the heaven open on Vaikunta Ekadasi day.
