Eleventh day of bright fortnight in the Tamil month of Margazi is celebrated as the Vaikunta Ekadashi. According to the Gregorian calender it falls in the months of December and January. According malayam calender (Kolla varsham) it is observed in the month of Dhanu. This year, Vaikunta Ekadasi is coming twice i.e. on Thursday, 1st January 2015 and Monday, 21st December 2015.
Prime diety of this festival is Lord Vishnu. People observe fast / Vrat in respect of this god. Thirupathi sri Venkateshwara Temple,Srirangam temple, Pittsburgh Temple and other Lord Vishnu temples celebrate this day in a grand manner.
