Elevnth lunarday of the each fortnight is known as Ekadashi. There are 24 ekadashis in hindu calender year. Vaikunta ekadashi is considered as more auspicious among these ekadashis. On this day, the doors to Vishnu’s divine abode, called Vaikuntam, are open to every one who seek salvation(moksha).

Vaikunta Ekadashi is observed  in the bright fortnight of December/ January, the Hindu month of Dahnurmasam (Margazi). According to the scriptures, suras and asuras churned the Ocean of Milk for many years and, amrita, the nectar of immortality, appeared on this day.

How to observe Vaikunta Ekadashi?

Lord Vishnu Devotees observe a total or partial fast on Vaikunta Ekadashi. Few observe Mauna vrat (not talking) throughout the day. Lord vishnu stotras are chanted on this day. Lord Vishnu temples arrange special darshan known as vaikunta Dwara darshan.
